The Canang Sari is the most common, simple type of banten (offering) made and offered daily by Balinese Hindus. These offering can be found at the entrances of houses and temples, at every crossroads, and in the shrines in farmers' fields.
Dedicated to Ida Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa, God Almighty, the Canang Sari symbolizes gratitude for the peace and balance given to the world and serves as a way to request for sundaram (beauty). The offerings are meticulously arranged in a process called metanding, where a woven janur (palm leaf) basket is filled with symbolic items such as flowers, coins, betel ingredients, rice and incense.
