This July and August, SAKA Museum presents a weekly series of hands-on cultural programs for the school holiday season. From ogoh-ogoh clay making and Balinese dance to canang offering making and guided cultural walks, each session offers an accessible way to spend time with Balinese craft, movement, and ritual.
Open to visitors spending the school holidays in Bali. No prior experience is required.

1. Ogoh-ogoh Clay Making
Every Thursday | 16 July – 27 August
Time: 14:00–15:30
Duration: 1.5 hours
Ogoh-ogoh are the enormous figures built and paraded on the eve of Nyepi. In this session, participants sculpt a miniature ogoh-ogoh head using air-dry clay and learn what gives each form its character — from the eyes to the fangs.
No art experience is required.
2. Balinese Dance Lesson
Every Tuesday | 7 July – 25 August
Time: 14:00–15:00
Duration: 1 hour
Balinese dance is one of the island’s most refined art forms. Every hand gesture, glance, and step carries meaning, learned through years of practice and passed down across generations.
In this session, the SAKA team introduces the foundational movements of classical Balinese dance. No prior experience is required.
Recommended for ages 6 and above. Children under 12 are recommended to attend with a parent or guardian.
3. Canang Offering Making
Every Monday & Friday
Time: 10:00–11:00
Duration: 1 hour
Canang sari are the small floral offerings placed every morning at doorways, temples, and street corners across Bali. In this session, participants fold the palm leaf, arrange the flowers, and make their own canang while learning the meaning behind its form.
4. Wednesday Cultural Hour
Every Wednesday
Time: 14:00–16:00
Duration: 2 hours
A two-hour guided walk through SAKA Museum’s permanent collections. The session begins with KASANGA, where Nyepi is told through Balinese paintings and ten commissioned ogoh-ogoh, before continuing to the Panca Maha Bhuta gallery, featuring traditional textiles, doors, and ritual objects.
